Biography

A musician with many hats, Nathan Alexandre Zürcher is at ease in classical music as well as in many other musical fields.

His passion for music has led him to explore a wide range of musical horizons and meet renowned artists, contributing to the cultural development of the region and beyond. He readily collaborates in the fields of French song, film music, improvised pop/rock music, rap, free improvisation, and specializes in creating projects around video games. He also holds the position of assistant for orchestral instruments at the Geneva University of Music.

Nathan Alexandre began cello studies in 2016 at the Basel University of Music (Switzerland), in the class of Thomas Demenga, where he successively obtained a Bachelor's degree with distinction and a Master's degree in music pedagogy in 2021. He successfully completed a second master's degree in composer-performer in the class of Ophélie Gaillard at the Geneva University of Music. His participation in masterclasses in Switzerland and Germany allowed him to meet artists such as Wen-Sinn Yang, François Guye, David Geringas and Lynn Harell.

With pianist Nicolas Caccivio, he formed the duo "Rotonde", which aims to explore the original repertoire for cello and piano as well as to discover new creations for this formation.

Nathan Alexandre doesn't hesitate to mix it up and also excels solo, as a composer and performer. His musical performances on his balcony during the Covid-19 pandemic, in which he produced videos featuring his own compositions, got him noticed. Since then, he has continued his productions at nursing homes and the Geneva University Hospitals. He has also managed to attract a young audience with innovative compositions influenced by film and video game music.

His recent encounter with the Jura rapper Sim's propelled him onto the contemporary music scene, thanks to his numerous Swiss tours.

Winner in 2019 of the Professional Development Grant from the Anne and Robert Bloch Jura Foundation, Nathan Alexandre is also the holder of numerous first prizes and winner of international competitions, such as the "Worldvision Music Contest" in December 2021. He also won several prizes in recognition of his brilliant studies in Geneva, such as the Prix Tremplin Leenaards grant, or the Contrechamps prize for the best artistic approach and support for his new classical video game concert project.
