Biography

A multi-talented musician, Nathan Alexandre Zürcher is equally at ease in classical music and in many other musical fields.

His passion for music has led him to explore many musical horizons and meet renowned artists, contributing to the cultural development of the region and beyond. He readily collaborates in the fields of French chanson, film scores, improvised pop/rock music, rap, free improvisation, and specializes in creating projects related to video games.

He began his cello studies in 2016 at the Basel Academy of Music in the class of Thomas Demenga, where he earned a Bachelor's degree with distinction, followed by a Master's degree in music pedagogy in 2021. He then pursued a second Master's degree in composition and performance at the Geneva University of Music in the class of Ophélie Gaillard, which he completed with distinction. His participation in numerous masterclasses in Switzerland and Germany has allowed him to work with artists such as Wen-Sinn Yang, François Guye, David Geringas, and Lynn Harrell.

Alongside his concert career, Nathan Alexandre has pursued a more institutional career. Until 2026, he held the position of assistant orchestral instrument teacher at the Geneva University of Music. He is also a music teacher at the Jura School and Conservatory of Music (EJCM).

With pianist Nicolas Caccivio, he founded the duo Rotonde, dedicated to the repertoire for cello and piano and to the discovery of new works. As a composer-performer, his videos of compositions published during the Covid period marked the beginning of a series of cultural initiatives that he has continued ever since in nursing homes and at the Geneva University Hospitals, with a constant desire to reach new audiences.

His meeting in 2021 with the Jura rapper Sim's propelled him onto the contemporary music scene, thanks to numerous Swiss tours.

Winner of the professional development grant from the Anne and Robert Bloch Foundation in the Jura region (2019), he also won several awards, including the Worldvision Music Contest (2021), as well as prizes in Geneva such as the Leenaards Springboard Prize and the Contrechamps prize for the best artistic approach, notably supporting his classical concert project around video games.
